On hair colours and personalities

When thinking about who you are and what makes you tick, a lot of factors are significant. But have you ever thought about how much of your looks are crucial for your personality? How much you are made of your appearance? For example, in what measure do your height, your size or your hair colour determine who you really are?
Are hair colours and personalities linked?

Off the top of my head, I would have said no. I don't believe that my brunette hair makes me any more special, cool or pretty than any other person. There are a lot of flaws in this way of thinking. Because if brunettes were inherently cooler than blondes, would that mean that all brunettes are equally as cool? Or would different nuances then make differences, too?
It's a weird concept to connect hair colours to certain attributes. After all, nobody really picks their behaviour due to their hair colour. Do blondes feel obliged to behave less intelligently, just because the cliché says they are? Certainly not. And are all brunettes boring and the same? Wouldn't think so, either.
But somehow, hair colours still seem to influence people.

When I was nine years old, my biggest idol was Hermione Granger. I wanted to be just like her, and did my best to adapt her ways into my own. I had my Grandma sew me black cloaks, and I always tried to be bright and intelligent. That she and I share the same hair colour helped me a lot in my efforts. It would have never been so easy to identify myself with her if we hadn't had that basic mutuality.
Identification is an important aspect that hair colours can create. Be it a fictional character, celebrity or a friend, it is more natural to emulate someone who has something in common with you. Therefore it helps to shape your personality in young years. Who you imitate, and who you try to be, can definitely stem from such simple similarities.

Clichés are easily created around hair colours. Especially if you have a very prominent one, red for example, you will be confronted with them quite often. They are definitely able to influence these people. But I believe that they can do it in two ways. Either, you start to develop in the direction that the cliché sets. The core of a prejudice is often the truth, and if you are referred to it often enough, it may start to apply to you, too. But on the other hand, it can influence you in exactly the opposite way. Upon hearing a certain stereotype often, one can get sick of it and try their best to get away from it. And then, such a cliché does not apply to you at all.

I reached the conclusion that our hair colours are part of our personalities. They influence us, in what small a way it might be, and make up a part of who we are. I don't think that a specific hair colour brings specific attributes with it. But I also believe that if I was a different shade, I'd be a different person. Think about it: Would you be exactly the same if your hair colour was something totally new? Take it as a chance to reinvent yourself. When you can change hair colours, why shouldn't you also change aspects of your personality?

When it comes to colouring your hair, your possibilities are endless. I recently heard about a hair care company called Madison Reed, who specialize in hair dye. They have re-engineered hair colour, making it a healthier, salon-quality alternative. They created dye that is free of PPD, sulfates, resorcinol, ammonia and gluten! Since you surely don't want to damage your hair too much when colouring it, this alternative might be worth a look.

What do you think about this topic? And what hair colour are you sporting for summer? Let me know!

xx, Misch

May 2013 Favorites

Hello everyone!
It's already the first of June today, so that means it's time for a favorites post! Here are my May '13 Favs!
Balea Body Butter Sunny Peach - I love the scent of this body butter, it smells so good! And it moisturizes really well, so I used this quite often this month :) Review
Belea Professional After Sun 2in1 Shampoo and Conditioner - this is a new product I tried during my vacation, a hair product to be used after being out in the sun. It's shampoo and conditioner in one, and has a sweet tropical scent. Review is planned!
Balea Professional Oil Repair Hair Oil - another hair product I used during my vacation. This one really saved my hair, because it gets dry so easily! Love this hair oil! Review
Catrice Geometrix LE Translucent Mattifying Powder - even though this powder doesn't last too long, I still enjoyed using it, as it's very natural and mattifies nicely! Don't mind having to touch it up during the day. Review
Essence Rebels LE Lip & Cheek Pot 01 Peach Punk - a blush from last year that I used again this month. Love the color! Review
Essence Sun Club LE Bronzer 01 De-light-fully Delicious - another old product, a couple of years old already! But the shade of this bronzer still fits me nicely, that's why I still use it!
Essence Wild Craft LE Duo Brush - the paddle side of this brush is what I use to apply my bronzer with. It has the perfect shape for that, love it! Review
Essie Glass Nail File - I got this little nail file with a special deal at a drugstore. It was a gift for every purchase of an Essie nail polish! And I like using this one a lot!

This concludes my favorites for the month of May! Please leave me some links to your favorites posts!

Review: Balea Professional Pure + Fresh Shampoo

Hey there!
Today I'd like to review a hair product that I've been using for almost a year now, I figured it was time I finally talked about it on here :D Let's talk about the Balea Professional Pure + Fresh Shampoo!
Information:
  • Balea Professional Pure + Fresh Shampoo
  • available at dm
  • contains 250 ml
  • costs around 1,45 Euros
  • used to be in a bottle with a pump dispenser
  • now you can buy it in a tube, and it's called Deep Cleansing Shampoo, but it's the same thing
  • it's a cleansing shampoo, meaning it removes all kinds of residues and silicones from your hair
Positives:
  • price
  • nice fresh scent
  • easy to use
  • lathers nicely
  • makes your hair and sculp feel light and clean
  • really seems to remove residues
Negatives:
  • availability
  • the pump dispenser doesn't close too well (you have to unscrew it to use it)
--> now they don't have that problem anymore with the tube bottle
  • when you use just the shampoo your hair is a little hard to brush through
After all, I love this shampoo! I use it once a month, just on its own, to cleanse my hair and sculp, and it really seems to help :) This bottle goes a long way, and I will definitley repurchase it :)
Do you use a cleansing shampoo?

I really like this blush, it works well for my skin tone and is gorgeous. You won't overblush when using it! Here *click* I reviewed it.

Essence Vintage District LE Lip Duo 02 Antique Pink
A very cute strawberry-colored lip duo. Even though the wear is rather poor, I like to use the lipstick during the day :) Review: *click*.

NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss 131 Gold Pink
This is one of the best Christmas presents I got this year, a beautiful lipgloss. It's pink with a golden shimmer, and very wearable. Here *click* is my review on it.

Grundig Funstylers Concial Curling Wand
This is a curling iron I just got recently, and I love it. Makes super pretty defined curls and waves, a review will be coming up.

Syoss Heat Protect Hair Spray
This is what I used to fix my curls, a really great hairspray. I like the scent and the hold it gives. Here I'll also be doing a review soon :)

Best Of Beauty 2012: My Top 10 Picks

Hey there!
With the new year starting, I don't want to immediately forget about the old one! So, here are my favorite picks from 2012, concerning cosmetics. We had tons of cool things this year, lots of new products and limited editions, and I had quite a few favorites! Here they are, in no particular order, my top 10 products of the year!

Catrice Hollywood's Fabulous 40ties LE Eyebrow Lifter C01 Casablanca's Highlight
You guys knew this had to be included. Ever since it was released this September I've been using it daily. One of the top products of 2012! Here *click* I reviewed it.

Essence MySkin Tinted Moisturizer 01 Light
This tinted moisturizer is just perfect for my skin. It freshens up my complexion and hydrates it. Since March when it was launched I've been using it every single, also have it in the darker shade for when I'm tan. Review: *click*.

Essence Color3 nail polish series
Here we have a nail polish line Essence released around the beginning of 2012. I love how all of the shades look great with its partner, but how you can also use them on their own. The left shades are all highly opaque whereas the ones on the right have very special shimmers. Here are some NOTDs with them:
A Walk In The Park, Midnight Date, Shopping Trip In Soho, Kiss On Top Of The Rock, It's Two Bright.

Essence Rebels LE Lip & Cheek Pot 01 Peach Punk
This creme blush came out in April, and I immediately loved it. It's a very interesting shade but actually totally flattering when worn. Love how it makes you look so fresh! Review: *click*.

Catrice FeMALE LE Cream To Powder Blush C01 A Woman's World
Another cream blush, yes. A really good and wearable one, I loved it for day to day looks and still use it all the time. Review can be found here *click*.

Catrice Eyeshadow 400 My First Copperware Party
Now this has already been released in 2011, but in 2012 I learned to love it. This is the prettiest and most wearable shade ever, and it can be used for so many different looks! I love it! Here *click* you can see swatches of it.

Balea Professional Oil Repair Hair Oil
This hair product is one I only discovered this winter, but I love it a lot! Very great care for long and damaged hair, and not heavy at all! Review is here *click*.

SunOzon Sun Fluid for face SPF 30
This sun screen has saved me this summer. Finally a good one that doesn't make you look shiny and greasy, and you can mix it very well with your moisturizer! Review: *click*.

Ebelin Professional Eyeshadow & Concealer Brush
A great brush I discovered this year. I've been using it all the time for my concealer and really love it :) Review: *click*.

Essence Breaking Dawn Part 2 LE Blush 01 Renesmee Red
Last but not least, the famous blush from Essence's Breaking Dawn Part 2 LE. A red matte shade, quite unique! It has a great texture and I like it a lot! Review: *click*.

Well guys, these are the products I loved most in 2012! I hope I forgot nothing! What were your favs? Please leave me your links in the comments!

Review: Balea Professional Oil Repair Hair Oil

Hi there!
Today I'd like to review a hair product I've just gotten recently, the Oil Repair Hair Oil from Balea.
Information:

  • Balea Professional Oil Repair Hair Oil
  • available at dm
  • it's an oil you're supposed to use to care your hair
  • made for dry and damaged hair
  • it contains 100 ml
  • it costs 2,95 Euros
  • you can use it on dry or wet hair as a leave-in treatment or just like a hair mask
  • it's supposed to make your hair very shiny and soft
  • according to the website, it's vegan
  • it contains argan and sunflower oil
  • made for daily use

Positives:

  • price
  • nice, warm, vanilla-like scent which also stays in your hair
  • oily but light consistency
  • easy to use
  • you just need a tiny bit of product
  • it detangles your hair
  • it makes your hair very soft
  • it doesn't look oily or greasy
  • all ways of usage, leave-in treatment or hair mask, are great
  • it's very rich and cares so well for your hair

Negatives:

  • the pump lid doesn't fully close: it's very likely that it'll open itself up
  • availability
  • the oil might not be that good for already very greasy hair

After all, I'm a big fan of this hair oil. It makes my hair feel so good, really deeply cared for. I love the scent for the cold season and use it as a leave-in treatment nearly after every shower.
I think it's especially great for the cold season as you need to take more care of your hair.
What are your favorite hair products?

Vacation Series: What To Take With You

Hey everyone!
Today I want to continue my Vacation Series. In this episode I'll be talking about what to take with you on vacation!
First of all, you need to be aware of the climate of the country you're going to. So check out some information on humidity and temperature before you, and then pack your stuff accordingly.
Since it's a very popular vacation destination, I'll talk about what to take with you when you're visiting the beach in a warm region.
In general, I think that on vacation at the beach, less is more in terms of cosmetics. It'll be warm, and you rather want to look natural than wear a lot of heavy stuff on your face! Make sure to go for key products you can rely on, and that can be used for a lot of different looks. When you travel you don't have a lot of space most of the time, so try to narrow them down to the really important things. Let's get into what to pack exactly!
First of all, the most important stuff: sun screen. Here *click* I already talked about how important it is, and you just must not forget to take it with you! Then it's also very important to take a good moisturizer with you! I always take my regular skin care routine products with me, then my skin won't have problems because it's used to the products. Other than that, you'll need shower things to take care of your body. A good shower gel and body lotion will do, and if you have to shave, you can use your shower gel instead of taking an extra shaving cream. That's about it concerning care products!
To take care of your hair, pack something that is caring and cleansing nicely. If you have to be quick, you can go for a 2in1 product. I don't think it's necessary to pack a lot of extra products, you can do masks and use leave-ins when you're back.
Now, concerning make-up: like I already said, less is more. For your face, take either a light foundation or a tinted moisturizer so you won't sweat as much. Go for a mattifying powder as well to reduce shine. Mascara is always good, and maybe you even want to get a waterproof one to use all day. I'd recommend taking a nice blush, and a good idea for that is cream blush. You don't necessarily have to pack a brush for it, and you can use it on your lips as well! The last thing I'd take is lipgloss, it can always be worn.
If you want to go out at night, I'd maybe also take an eyeliner with me. Eyeshadow can be nice, too, but that would be mean packing brushes and different colors/palettes and an eyeshadow base and that is a lot of stuff!
You also really don't need to pack a whole lot of colors! A friend of mine once packed 5 colors of blush for a 3-day-trip, in case she might be in the mood for one of the colors. That's crazy, it's fully okay to wear 1 shade of blush or lipstick for a couple of days!
The last thing to keep in mind is the way you pack your stuff, because when you are in a hot country, chances are that some products might melt, and you want to avoid that.
What kind of cosmetics do you pack when you go on vacation?
xoxo, Misch

May 2012 Favorites

Hey there!
Even though I'm away right now, I still didn't forget to schedule my favorites for the month of May! Here you go:
Essence Rebels LE Lip&Cheek Pot - You guys know I love this blush, it's so pretty and I've been using it all month long :) Here *click* is my review on it.
Hipp Baby Shampoo - my scalp's been super sensitive lately, so I switched to using baby shampoo! This one is just our local brand, there are a lot of different ones available. So far my scalp feels great, but I gotta test it in the long run to see how it actually works for me!
SunOzon Sun Fluid for the face - I've been looking for a sunscreen for just my face for a long time and finally found this one at my local Rossmann. I tried it a few times now and love it so far! During my vacation it'll have to prove how good it is, and a review will follow.
Isana Q10 Bodylotion - I actually took this one from my Mom ;) It's a body lotion made for older skin, because it's supposed to tighten it a little. Even though I don't really need that yet, I love the scent and the light consistency that I used it all month long :D
Maybelline Volum' Express Turbo Boost Mascara - I just finished my Rival de Loop Ultimate Volume Mascara, which I loved, but I decided to try a new one. Maybelline's Volum' Express Turbo Boost Mascara is one I never tried before, but so far I like it. Review will follow.
Alterra Caring Lipstick 06 Coral - I love love love this lipstick, the color is so pretty and nice for summer! It's a dark coral, but still great for every day. Great one!

So guys, these were my favorites for the month of May! What were yours? I'm really curious!
See you soon,
xoxo, Misch

Review: Nivea Long Repair Shampoo

Hey there!
Today I have a review for you guys, about a shampoo I've been using for a while now. I'm talking about Nivea's Long Repair Shampoo.
Information:
  • part of Nivea's permanent Long Repair Series which also contains a conditioner and a hair mask
  • available at most drugstores
  • contains 250 ml
  • costs 1,75 Euros
  • made for long, damaged hair (which is what I have)
Positives:
  • price
  • availability
  • smells nice, similar to that typical hair product scent
  • cares my hair nicely
  • makes it smooth
Negatives:
  • dries out my scalp a little
  • my hair gets greasy faster, I gotta wash it at least every other day
Bottom line, I don't think I'll get this shampoo again. It cared my hair nicely, it looked healthy, but the problems with my scalp and the greasiness are just too big to be outweighed. For now I stopped using it, and switched to baby shampoo, but at some point I might try it again (use the leftovers in the bottle that is). The possibility that the scalp problems are just due to hormones is there after all, but I don't know whether it plays a role.
I don't want to scare you away from this product, I know plenty of friends who like this stuff a lot. It just didn't work for me.
Did you maybe try it?
xoxo, Misch

Hey there!
And another month is over...it's starting to get spring! I'm so looking forward to it, yay :D
But let's not immediately forget February, here are my favs for this month:
Alverde Hair Tip Fluid - My hair had got really bad lately, so I decided to take better care of it. I already once tried this Hair Tip Fluid, and I thought I'd give it another chance :)
Essence Tinted Moisturizer - You guys know that I'm trying out this one, and I really like it so far! A review will be up tomorrow :)
Catrice FeMALE LE Cream To Powder Blush - This is an awesome thing of a blush. I love the texture, the color, everything. Here *click* I reviewed it.
Catrice Nymphelia LE Unbeleaf'able Blush - Another blush that is really pretty, and I like it a lot. Here *click* is the review.
Shopaholic Series - You guys know that I like to read chick lit books, and I like Sophie Kinsella. A friend lent me the whole series, and I really enjoyed it ;) A review will follow :)
Rival de Loop Kabuki - I've started to apply my powder with a kabuki again, and I love this one! It's so inexpensive and great quality! Interested in a review?

That's it for my favs of this month guys! What were yours?

Hey everyone,

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 DVD: You guys knew this had to be included. I love Harry Potter, and the final DVD finally came out! Here *click* I reviewed the movie when I saw it in cinema (it's a looooooong review).
So that's it for this month! What were your favorites? I'd like to know!

Updated Hair Routine

Hello out there!
I've noticed that I haven't updated my routines in forever, and since the last time I showed it to you *click*, my Hair Routine changed quite often! With my latest routine I'm quite happy, so I'm gonna show it to you!
I don't do too much stuff with my hair, I wash it every other day, and when it's washed I leave it on it's own most of the time, I don't even blow-dry it. I find that this works best for my long hair, it looks very healthy most of the time. Of course I have bad hair days, who doesn't have them?
For my shampoo I use Schauma's Apple Extract Shampoo. I use this mainly on my head, and don't apply it directly to my tips. When I wash it out, it rinses everything bad out, and my hair feels clean.
In the next step I use a conditioner, Swiss O Par's Green Apple Conditioner that is. It doesn't contain silicones, and it still makes my hair very smooth and easy to comb. When my hair is wet, I only comb it with a wide-toothed comb, btw, because that's better for your hair.
I do like to use hair masks, but at the moment I don't have one I use on a regular basis. I tried out a few lately, in sample sizes, and I'm not sure yet what I want to use often. So I can't name one here.
For extra hair care, I have two things, and the first is Dove's Therapy Heat Protectant. I use this whenever I use heat on my hair. And the other product is something that I've owned for quite some time. It's Dove's Smooth & Straight Therapy Hair Milk. It contains a lot of silicones, so I only use it when my hair really needs some care.
That's already it for the products I use! As I said, it's not a lot, but I'm really content with it :)
My only problem right now is that when it gets colder, my scalp gets really dry. Do you have any advice, maybe even some DIY stuff, for a nice care for a dry scalp? That would be great!
What do you do for hair care?
Until next time!
xoxo, Misch

Use-It-Up #4

Hey everyone,
today I want to show you finally finally a new part of my Use-It-Up Series! I'm so glad I managed to use up some stuff again, even if it's not that much.
Here's what I used up in the past time:
Florena Bio Olive Oil Hand Lotion - I like this hand lotion a lot, especially for the cold time. Here *click* I reviewed it.
Nivea Happy Time Shower Cream - Another thing I like a lot, like I already expressed in my review *click*.
Isana Vitamin&Yogurt Body Lotion - This body lotion is great, here I reviewed it *click*. But I think it's too thin for the colder season.
Synergen Anti Pimple Gel - My skin has turned a bit worse lately, maybe because of the stress with school starting and stuff. So I used it quite often.
Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer - You guys know this is my favorite top coat, like I said in this review *click*. Already repurchased it.
Yves Rocher Baume Nourrissant Lip Balm - This is a really great lip balm, but right now I'm using a different one.
Alverde Hair Tip Fluid - I already repurchased this many times, but I'm not so sure if I will anymore, because it doesn't have that much of a great effect. It's good, but not extraordinary.

Unfortunately I didn't use up any decorative cosmetics, but I guess this is better than nothing. And maybe next time ;)
Did you use up anything recently?
I'll see you soon!
xoxo, Misch

Collective Use-It-Up post #2

Hey guys,
it's time for a new Use It Up post again :) I don't do these regularly, but lately I used up some stuff, so here it is:
Nivea 2in1 Express Shampoo and Conditioner
I reviewed this hair product here *click*, and liked it. But right now I'm using a different one, so I won't re-buy this for now.

Astor HD Mattitude Foundation
You know I love this foundation, I did review it here *click*. Of course I repurchased it!

Essence Eye Make-up Remover with Oil
This make-up remover was okay, but not the best one I ever used. So I won't buy it again.

Alverde Repair Hairtip Fluid
I like this stuff, but lately I feel like it's not caring my hair as much anymore, so I still have to think about whether to purchase it again.

Nivea Happy Time Deodorant
This is a really cool and nice-scented deodorant, but right now I'm using a different one that I like better right now. I still might go back to this one :)

Essence Pro White French Base Coat
I always use this base coat, it dries fast and protects my nails. I already repurchased it and will keep using it :) Interested in a reveiw?

Synergen Wash Cream
This has always been a part of my skin care routine, and it still is. For my full routine, *click* here. Of course I always have one of this at home :)

Dove Therapy Heat Protectant
I like the effect and the scent of this heat protectant, but I don't really use heat on my hair anymore, so I won't repurchase it for now. But if I need one some time, I'll buy it again :)

Well, that's it for this episode :) I hope I'll be able to do a new post about this soon, because I always try to use up stuff so there's space for new ones :D But apparently I only use up the stuff I repurchase anyway...Whatever ;)
See ya!

Review: L'oréal Elvital Volume-Collagen 2in1 Shampoo & Conditioner

Hi guys!
Today I have a new review for you about the shampoo I've been using lately. It's called L'oréal Elvital Volume-Collagen 2in1 Shampoo & Conditioner. I will keep this review in the short form, but I'll add something in the end.
Information:

  • is made for fine and flat hair
  • is supposed to add volume to your hair
  • doesn't contain any silicons
  • is a shampoo and conditioner in one
  • costs about 2,49 Euros at most drugstores
  • is made with the technological innovation collagen
  • contains 250 ml
Positives:
  • price
  • good ingredients: collagen + no silicons
  • is a 2in1 one product -> you save time
  • cares your hair better than a normal shampoo would do
  • adds nice volume in the beginning
Negatives:
  • doesn't add as much volume as it promises
  • doesn't add much volume anymore after a few uses
  • doesn't care your hair as nicely as a conditioner might do -> not enough care

What I want to add is this: When I first washed my hair with it, it felt so so good and soft. My hair was really voluminous and soft and I loved it. The next time I used it, it was still nice, but not as soft. And this nice feeling of softness and volume has gradually faded. Now it's really not more than a okay-caring shampoo to me.
So after all, I can't 100% recommend this one. If you want to try it out, you can, but I'm not gonna say it perfect.
What do you think about this?
xoxo, Misch

Review: Nivea 2in1 Express Shampoo&Conditioner

Hi guys,
today's review is about a hair product, the Nivea 2in1 Express shampoo&conditioner. It's one I've been using for quite some time now and I actually like it a lot! :) This review will only be a short one, but I hope that's enough for you ;)

Information:
- it's supposed to clean&Care your hair in one step, doing the work of both a shampoo and a conditioner
- it costs about 2-3 Euros at most drugstores
- is suitable for every-day hairwash

Positives:
- has a nice scent
- cleans my hair nicely
- lathers nicely
- has good ingredients
- cares my hair nicely for the fact how quick it is
- one thing for both steps: easy and quick
- good price
Negatives:
- isn't enough care for all the time, my hair sometimes needs more than just that

Well, that's it about it ;)
Does anyone of you use it, too?
I'll see you soon!
xoxo, Misch

Collective Use-It-Up post!

Hey everyone :)
You haven't heard a lot about Project Use-It-Up by me lately, but that doesn't mean that I didn't use anything up. I just decided I'd put it in one collective post, like I did it with my NOTDs. These things were used up lately:
- Synergen Washcreme, I already bought another bottle of this. I already mentioned it in my skincare routine *click*
- Essence Nail Oil, I already rebought this, too, because I like it :) Want a review??
- Yves Rocher Apricot Peeling, here's a review of it *click*. I like it, but right now I have another peeling to use.
- Yves Rocher showergel in Chocolate & Orange, I bought it this winter, and liked the scent a lot. I'd repurchase it, but unfortunately it was limited edition. :P What a pity! But the scent now isnt' that great anymore, because it's a winter scent, and we're now getting into spring :)
- p2 Nail Polish Thinner, I also repurchased this, because it really comes in handy sometimes :)
- RdLY clear care mascara, I use this to fix my brows and run out of it regularly. Have to get a new one!
- Alverde Hair Tip Fluid, I really liked this stuff, it worked well for my hair tips. Have to get another one of this!
- Nivea Ideal Finish Foundation in 02 Nude, I reviewed it here *click*. I liked it a lot, and I still have another bottle of this here, but right now I'm using the Astor Mattitude foundation *click*.

- Balea Cleansing Wipes for sensitive skin, they're ewre fine to use, but I didn't really like the scent, and they didn't remove my make-up too well. Won't rebuy these.

Well, that's what I used up lately. It's not that much, but still a few things. Unfortunately there are almost no  decorative cosmetics product in this use-it-up! post, because I switch my products up pretty often, so there's nothing I use that often that it's totally finished..
I'll see you soon!
